HID card readers and credentials

HID readers, Seos credentials and mobile access, including upgrades from easy-to-copy proximity cards.

Updated October 2026 · CSLB #819788, C-7, C-10, C-28

The short answer

WCC installs HID card readers and credentials across Southern California, including Signo and iCLASS SE readers, Seos and iCLASS cards, and HID Mobile Access, working with Brivo, Avigilon Unity and other access control platforms. The most common project is upgrading old 125 kHz proximity cards, which are easy to copy, to secure Seos credentials and OSDP readers.

Prox upgrades

Why upgrade from proximity cards

125 kHz proximity cards send an unencrypted number that inexpensive devices can copy from a few inches away. Moving to Seos credentials and OSDP readers closes that gap. Most upgrades are phased: we install multi-technology readers that accept both old and new cards, issue new credentials by group, then turn off prox once everyone has switched. OSDP also replaces the older Wiegand wiring protocol with encrypted, supervised communication between reader and controller.

Platforms

Which platforms HID works with

Brivo

HID readers and credentials are widely used with Brivo cloud access control. Brivo

Avigilon Unity

Unity Access supports HID readers for on-premises systems. Avigilon

Other platforms

Many enterprise platforms support HID readers; we confirm compatibility during design.

Cost

What HID upgrades cost

HID readers typically run $250 to $800 each in hardware depending on model, and cards $5 to $15 each. Installation and programming add to that, and a reader swap on an existing door is far less than a new door. A full new door, with hardware and cabling, typically runs $1,500 to $4,500 installed. See the access control cost guide.

FAQ

HID questions

Does WCC install HID readers?

Yes. We install HID Signo and iCLASS SE readers, Seos and iCLASS credentials, and HID Mobile Access with compatible access control platforms.

Why should we replace proximity cards?

125 kHz prox cards are unencrypted and can be copied in seconds. Seos credentials with OSDP readers are encrypted and much harder to clone.

Can we upgrade without re-badging everyone at once?

Yes. Multi-technology readers accept both old and new cards, so you can re-badge in phases.

What is OSDP?

OSDP is a secure, supervised communication protocol between readers and controllers that replaces older Wiegand wiring.

How much do HID readers cost?

Readers typically run $250 to $800 each in hardware and cards $5 to $15 each, plus installation and programming.

Does HID work with our access control system?

HID works with Brivo, Avigilon Unity and many other platforms. We confirm compatibility before ordering.
