The short answer
A dealership is a high-value lot, a retail floor and a finance office at once. WCC covers the lot and perimeter with cameras and license plate recognition, covers the showroom and service drive, and segments the network so F&I and DMS data supports the FTC Safeguards Rule.
Dealership zones
What each part of the dealership needs
| Area | Systems |
|---|---|
| Inventory lot and perimeter | Wide-area and long-range cameras, license plate recognition at entrances |
| Showroom | Cameras, customer Wi-Fi, displays |
| Service drive and bays | Cameras documenting vehicle condition, shop network |
| Parts and cashier | Cameras, access control |
| F&I offices and server room | Segmented network, firewall, restricted access |
Safeguards Rule
Protecting the data behind the F&I desk
Dealers that arrange financing fall under the FTC Safeguards Rule, which requires a written security program with real technical controls.
Segmentation. F&I and DMS systems on their own network segments, away from guest Wi-Fi and shop equipment.
Firewalls and monitoring. Managed firewalls and cybersecurity monitoring.
Access control. Locked server rooms and F&I offices, with logs.
Documentation. Network diagrams and settings for your written program.

FAQ
Auto dealership technology questions
Do you install license plate recognition for dealership lots?
Yes. We design lot and perimeter camera coverage with license plate recognition at entrances and key points to deter overnight theft and catalytic converter cutting and to support investigations.
What is the FTC Safeguards Rule and does it apply to my dealership?
The FTC Safeguards Rule treats dealers that arrange or extend financing as financial institutions and requires a written information security program with technical controls. WCC builds the technical side, such as network segmentation for F&I and DMS data, access controls and security monitoring, and documents it. The written program and compliance remain the dealership's responsibility.
Can you standardize technology across a dealer group?
Yes. We build one camera, license plate, network and access standard and deploy it the same way at every rooftop, managed from one dashboard.
Which platforms work well for dealerships?
Avigilon, Verkada and Axis cameras with license plate recognition, Brivo or Avigilon Alta access control, and Meraki or Aruba networks with Fortinet security are common choices. All are NDAA compliant.
Do you install dealership alarms?
Cameras and access control are designed to integrate with your licensed alarm company's intrusion system.
